San Gerardo de Dota, located in the mountains near Perez Zeledon, is considered one of the most beautiful places to go birdwatching, home to roughly 200 aviary species featuring the stunning Quetzal, Emerald Toucanet and Black Guan. Quetzales breed in april and may so it’s a great time to see dozens swooping through the tropical cloud forest! San Gerardo has stunning views of rolling hills with the Cordillera de Talamanca in the background. This is a perfect place for nature lovers. San Gerardo de Dota has not yet become a booming tourist attraction, so travelers may find this gem to be peaceful and truly unique. You don’t want to miss Los Quetzales National Park, This National Park is 12,355 acres and home to three different kinds of rainforests and 14 ecosystems! The nearby Savegre River is a great place to go fishing, the sparkling river is home to lots of fresh trout ready to be caught.
